Oppo Reno7 5G (China): A Comprehensive Review

Oppo launched the Reno7 5G for the Chinese market back in late 2021. As we enter 2024, let’s do a comprehensive review of this smartphone to see how it holds up against newer offerings.

Display: 

The Reno7 5G sports a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The screen produces vibrant colors and deep blacks thanks to the AMOLED panel. At 430 nits of brightness, it’s decently bright for indoor use. The 20:9 aspect ratio is ideal for media consumption. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection keeps the display scratch-resistant. 

Performance:

Powering the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset coupled with up to 12GB of RAM. This should provide snappy performance for day-to-day tasks as well as graphics-intensive games. The Adreno 642L GPU is capable of handling graphics well. Oppo’s ColorOS 12 software based on Android 11 provides a smooth user experience.

Cameras: 

The triple rear camera system includes a 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro units. While not the latest configuration, it can capture good looking photos in well-lit settings. The 32MP front camera is adequate for selfies and video calls. Video recording tops out at 4K 30fps.

Battery & Charging: 

A 4500mAh battery keeps the lights on, which is decent for the screen size. Impressively, it supports 65W SuperVOOC fast charging that can top up the battery quickly. The included 65W adapter juices up the phone in no time.

Design & Build:

Weighing just 185g, the Reno7 5G feels comfortable in hand. Its 7.6mm thin profile also makes it highly pocketable. The back panel is made of plastic but has a visual appeal thanks to the matte finish. Dual SIM support and 5G connectivity are present.
