The Oppo A36 Budget Smartphone
Oppo recently announced the release of their new budget-friendly smartphone, the Oppo A36. With a suggested retail price starting around 400, 890 Naira the A36 looks to provide solid mid-range specs at an affordable price point.
Design and Display
The A36 has a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720×1612 and a fast 90Hz refresh rate. This large screen real estate should provide an immersive viewing experience. The display is housed in a slim 8.4mm body that weighs only 185g, making it comfortable to hold. The rear panel comes in Black and Blue color options.
Hardware and Performance
Under the hood, the A36 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 4G chipset with up to 8GB of RAM for smooth multi-tasking. Storage options include 128GB or 256GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a microSD card. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 610 GPU which should support light to moderate mobile gaming.
Keeping the phone running is a sizable 5000mAh battery which Oppo claims will provide all-day usage on a single charge. Unfortunately rapid charging support is unknown, but hopefully 33W charging from the similar Oppo A76 model will be supported.
Camera and Connectivity
For photography needs, the A36 packs a dual rear camera setup including a 13MP main sensor and 2MP depth sensor. Video can be recorded at 1080p30. Selfies are captured with an 8MP front-facing camera.
Connectivity options include WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C charging. Unfortunately there is no NFC support for contactless payments.
All in all, the Oppo A36 seems to provide a capable set of features and specs for the price, making it worth considering for those on a budget. Its large battery and display in particular could offer good value. However, some may wish to spend a bit more for upgrades like faster charging from the Oppo A96.
