Realme GT2 Pro – An Impressive Flagship Killer?

Realme has quickly gained popularity for offering high-spec smartphones at affordable prices. The GT2 Pro is their latest attempt at a true flagship that doesn’t break the bank. With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, 120Hz AMOLED display and stylish design, does it have what it takes to compete with the big brands?

Design and Display

The GT2 Pro sports a elegant glass design with thin bezels around the 6.7-inch AMOLED display. It comes in four colors and has a nice in-hand feel despite being quite large. The display is one of its headline features – it’s a 1440p panel with 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO 2.0 technology for smart switching between 1-120Hz. This gives buttery smooth scrolling and great image quality with 1500nits of peak brightness. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass Victus too.

Performance and Software

Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip paired with up to 12GB RAM. This combination delivered impressive benchmark scores and provided lag-free multitasking in my testing. The phone came with Realme UI 4.0 based on Android 12 which has some handy features while not straying too far from stock Android. Promised updates to Android 13 are great to see too.

Cameras

On the rear you get a 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 3MP microscope camera. Photos from the main and ultrawide sensors were very good in most conditions. The microscope lens is a intriguing extra that works quite well. Video recording can be done at up to 8K as well. The 32MP selfie camera took nice portrait shots.

Battery Life

A 5000mAh battery paired with 65W fast charging kept the phone running all day with regular use. Charging from 0-100% took around 33 minutes as advertised which is very fast.

Early Verdict

Priced around 800,000 the Realme GT2 Pro delivers top-level hardware and a premium experience for much less than competing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones.
