The OnePlus 5 Price in Nigeria is 730,000 Naira and this includes Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Rivers, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Kaduna, Edo, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Benin, Owerri, Warri.

The OnePlus 5 was launched back in 2017 to much fanfare. As one of OnePlus’ most popular devices, I thought it would be interesting to revisit this “flagship killer” from five years ago to see how it holds up today.

Design and Build

For a phone released in 2017, the OnePlus 5 still looks quite sleek thanks to its minimalist aluminum unibody design. It has thin bezels surrounding the 5.5-inch AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. At just 7.3mm thick and weighing 153g, the phone feels compact yet solid in the hand.

While plastic and glass backs are more common now, the metal construction gives the OnePlus 5 a still quite premium feel. Its sleek looks remain fairly timeless in my opinion.

Specifications

Under the hood lies Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 835 chip, which was top-of-the-line in 2017. It’s paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Remarkably, this aging silicon can still handle most day-to-day tasks fairly smoothly in 2024, a testament to how future-proof flagship components used to be.

The OnePlus 5 comes with 64GB or 128GB storage and runs OxygenOS based on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. It received updates up to Android 10, giving it a relatively long support lifespan.

Display and Cameras

The 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display holds up well, with vibrant colors and deep blacks. Around front is a capable 16MP selfie camera, while the dual 16MP+20MP rear camera combo was considered very good for the time.

Battery Life and Charging

Powering everything is a 3,300mAh battery which provided all-day life even with moderate usage. The 20W fast charging is no longer considered quick by today’s standards but still gets the job done in a reasonable time.

Verdict

While obviously showing its age in certain areas like lack of updates, wireless charging, and modern camera features, the OnePlus 5 continues delivering a very smooth and enjoyable user experience even in 2024 thanks to stellar hardware and software optimizations. For its current price point, it remains a sensible choice for those on a budget who prioritize performance and longevity. Its timeless design is a bonus.
