The New Samsung Galaxy A54

Samsung has refreshed its popular Galaxy A series for 2023 with the release of the Samsung Galaxy A54. As one of the newest mid-range smartphones from the South Korean company, let’s take a closer look at what upgrades and features this device brings to the table.

Design and Display

The Galaxy A54 carries over the refined aesthetic Samsung has established for its A series phones. It has a slim 8.2mm thick aluminum frame sandwiched between two layers of sturdy Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back. Measuring 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2mm, it’s compact yet feels high quality in the hand.

Standing out is the 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display. With FHD+ resolution, a high 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits, it provides punchy colors and smooth scrolling. The slim top and side bezels around the screen maximize the viewing area. An in-display fingerprint sensor allows for quick and seamless unlocking.

Hardware and Performance

Powering the A54 is Samsung’s new mid-range Exynos 1380 chipset built on a 5nm process. It offers moderate performance gains over the previous A53 processor. Configurations include 4, 6, or 8GB of RAM paired with 128 or 256GB of internal storage. MicroSD expansion is also supported.

Performance feels zippy and responsive for everyday tasks. The Exynos 1380 provides more than enough power for browsing, social media, streaming, and light gaming. Transitioning between apps is buttery smooth thanks to One UI 6.1’s optimizations and the high refresh rate screen.

Camera

Around the back sits a triple camera module headlined by a versatile 50MP wide camera. It’s joined by a 12MP ultra-wide and 5MP macro shooter. Selfies are handled by a 32MP front camera.

Daylight photos exhibit great detail, dynamic range, and natural colors. Low-light performance is also decent though noise creeps in. 4K video recording is supported up to 30fps along with a variety of stabilization options. Overall, the A54 takes excellent photos for its price point.

Battery & Charging

A sizable 5000mAh battery keeps the A54 running throughout the day without issues. Its power efficiency allows for over 11 hours of screen time in average usage. When it does run low, 25W fast wired charging is supported for quick top-ups.

Wireless charging or reverse charging are absent at this level, but the large battery capacity makes up for it. Combined with the power savings from the display’s dynamic refresh rate, endurance is a key strength of this device.

Pricing and Specs

Pricing for the Galaxy A54 starts at around $170/£200 for the base 6GB/128GB model. Upgrading to 8GB RAM costs just $15 more, offering excellent value. It comes in attractive colors and runs Android 13 out of the box with an Android 15 upgrade confirmed.

Water resistance, stereo speakers, and an in-display fingerprint sensor reinforce the A54’s premium mid-range credentials. At this price, it undercuts comparable devices from competitors like Xiaomi, Realme, and more.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy A54 strikes the perfect balance of features, performance, and price. It maintains Samsung’s reputation for consistently good-value A-series phones and remains very competitive in 2023’s crowded mid-tier market.
