Review of the Tecno Camon 19 Pro

Introduction:
Tecno Mobile is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that has been gaining popularity in emerging markets. In this post, I’ll be reviewing one of their flagship smartphones – the Tecno Camon 19 Pro.

Design and Build Quality:
The Camon 19 Pro has a glass front and plastic back held together by a plastic frame. It has a big 6.8-inch display with thin bezels all around for an 88% screen-to-body ratio. At 204g, it has some weight to it but the back tapers slightly to make it comfortable to hold. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is quick to unlock. Overall, the build quality feels solid for a mid-range phone.

Display:
The Camon 19 Pro sports a large 1080×2460 LCD display with a high 120Hz refresh rate. Colors look vibrant and it gets plenty bright even outdoors. The FHD+ resolution is sharp for media consumption. However, some may miss the superior colors and contrast of an AMOLED display at this price point.

Performance and Hardware:
Under the hood is the MediaTek Helio G96 chip coupled with 8GB of RAM. In day to day use, it handled all tasks without any issues. Games like COD Mobile ran smoothly at high graphics. There is 128GB or 256GB of storage depending on the variant. Further expansion is not possible due to the lack of a microSD card slot.

Cameras:
The triple rear camera setup includes a 64MP main, 50MP telephoto and 2MP depth sensor. Photos taken in good lighting looked detailed with accurate colors. Low light photos retained good details as well thanks to features like Night mode. The 32MP front camera is great for selfies. Video recording maxes out at 1080p which is disappointing.

Battery Life:
With a 5000mAh battery, the Camon 19 Pro easily lasts over a day of regular usage. In our usage, it went from 100-20% in over 24 hours which included 3 hours of screen time, browsing, messaging and light gaming. The 33W fast charging topped it up in just over an hour which is impressive.

Conclusion:
Priced at around 400, 000 the Tecno Camon 19 Pro offers a lot for your money. You get a great display, powerful internals, excellent battery life and good cameras. Build quality could be better but it’s acceptable at this price point. If you need 5G, look elsewhere but for most users in emerging markets, this rival to Redmi and Realme offerings is a solid choice.
