Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G: An Affordable 5G Phone with Good Specs
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 12 5G, the latest entry-level 5G smartphone under its Redmi sub-brand. Priced starting at just 300,000 Naira, the Redmi 12 5G aims to make 5G connectivity more accessible with its affordable price tag while also offering decent specs for the money.
The Redmi 12 5G sports a 6.79-inch IPS LCD display with 1080×2460 pixel resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The large screen real estate is appreciated but it does make it slightly unwieldy for one-handed use. Build quality is good overall with a plastic frame sandwiched between glass panels on the front and back. It is splash and dust resistant with an IP53 rating.
Powering the Redmi 12 5G is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor along with 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM options. This is an entry-level chip but should handle basic everyday tasks smoothly. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB. Additional storage can be added via the microSD card slot.
Battery life is excellent thanks to the 5000mAh battery which is enough to easily last a full day of moderate usage. It supports 18W fast charging via the USB-C port.
The dual rear camera system consists of a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, an 8MP selfie camera handles video calls and selfies. While not the best camera setup, it will suffice for casual photography in good lighting.
Software and Connectivity
The Redmi 12 5G runs on Android 13 out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 skin on top. It has all the necessary connectivity options including dual 5G SIM support, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Priced very competitively at just 300,000 Naira, the Redmi 12 5G looks to offer a solid overall package for those seeking an affordable 5G-enabled smartphone. Its large high-refresh display, long battery life and decent performance for the price make it a compelling option for basic users on a budget. The cameras could be better but that’s to be expected at this price point. Early reviews have been fairly positive so far.
So in summary, the Redmi 12 5G seems like a solid entry-level 5G phone for those not wanting to spend much while still getting future-proof 5G connectivity.
