Xiaomi Unveils Budget Friendly Redmi Note 12R
Xiaomi recently announced the Redmi Note 12R, the newest addition to its popular Redmi Note smartphone series. As expected from a Redmi Note device, the 12R targets budget-conscious consumers with its affordable price point and capable hardware specifications.
In terms of design, the Redmi Note 12R features a flat 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display occupies nearly the entire front of the device with slim bezels all around. On the rear, the phone has a square-shaped camera module housing four lenses. It comes in three color options – Graphite Gray, Twilight Blue, and Polar White.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 12R is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G chipset which provides solid performance for day-to-day tasks and light gaming. It comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. A 5000mAh battery powers the device and supports 67W fast charging, which Xiaomi claims can fill up the battery from empty to full in just 41 minutes.
For photography duties, the Redmi Note 12R sports a quad rear camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, it has a 16MP selfie shooter housed in a centered punch-hole cutout. Camera performance is said to be decent for the price range with capable daylight shots and decent selfies.
Software and Other Details
The phone boots MIUI 13 custom skin based on Android 12 out of the box. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric security.
Pricing for the Redmi Note 12R starts at CNY 1,299 (around 300,000 Naira) for the base 6GB/128GB model. This makes it an enticing package for those seeking a no-frills 5G-ready smartphone under 500,000 Naira. The Redmi Note series has proven popular budget champions and the 12R appears to be continuing that legacy.
